Information about the Student Web Server
Q: What is different about the student web server for Fall 2003?
A: Instead of asking students to request a student web space, they
are automatically generated for all students, including those
students who are also ETSU Faculty and Staff members. The
student web server also supports FrontPage 2002 extensions, instead
of FrontPage 2000 extensions, as with previous semesters.
Q: How much space is allotted to each student?
A: Each student is allotted 10MB of space.
Q: What should I use for my FTP or FrontPage username and
password?
A: You should enter your username as ETSU\your_username, for
example, ETSU\ZABC1. The password that you use is the same
password you use to log into the machines in the computer labs.
If you are unsure of what that password is, you may go
here to
change it.
Q: What is the address to my student homepage?
A: http://students.etsu.edu/your_username, for example,
http://students.etsu.edu/ZABC1
Q: I have uploaded my website, but I am not able to view it just by
typing in an address like the one in the previous question.
What's wrong?
A: The "home" page of your web site must be named as one of the
following: default.htm, default.html, index.htm, index.html or if
you are creating your web page with asp, default.asp or index.asp.
Q: I had a website on the old student web server and now it's gone.
How do I get it back?
A: please send an e-mail to
or call the help desk (numbers listed below)
and enter a request to restore your web site from the old student
web server.
Q: It doesn't look like my student web site was created.
A: Unlike previous years, we are not loading a default "under
construction" page into every students web site. You will
receive the same error page if you try to visit a website that
doesn't exist or hasn't been created. If you are following the
above instructions correctly, and still can not access your web
site, please send an e-mail to or call the help desk (numbers listed
below). Contact information:
